Paul A. Raskauskas M.D., F.A.C.S

BOARD CERTIFIED OPHTHALMOLOGIST AND RETINA-VITREOUS SPECIALIST

Retina Specialists are different. There are several sub-specialties in ophthalmology, including glaucoma, cataracts, and retina. A retina specialist is a medical doctor who has specialized in ophthalmology and sub-specialized in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous of the eye. Diagnosis of the retina and vitreous diseases should prompt a thorough examination that may require highly technical equipment and testing. All of the physicians of Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida have completed extensive fellowship training and focus on the diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and research of the diseases that impact the health of the retina and vitreous.

After graduation from Harvard and Duke University Medical School, Dr. Raskauskas trained at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He did his retina and vitreous surgical training at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, Miami, FL. He joined Dr. Walker and Dr. Wing at Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida in 1992. He has a particular interest in studying Geographic Atrophy, a type of Age-Related Macular Degeneration. He is currently the Principal Investigator for several clinical trials and has been a part of dozens of pivotal clinical trials that have led to FDA approval of new therapies to fight retina or vitreous diseases.

He has served as an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Scientist for the Schepens Eye Research Institute affiliated with Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, and has also served on the Advisory Council for Lighthouse of Southwest Florida, a not for profit organization that provides aid to the blind at no cost. He was awarded the James W. Clower, Jr. MD Community Service Award, presented by the Florida Society of Ophthalmology Foundation for his volunteer work at Lions Club of Bonita Springs.

He has received the honor of Best Doctor and Castle Connolly Top Doctor. He has authored numerous articles and abstracts that have been presented at regional, national, and international conventions and has been published in respected medical journals such as Ophthalmology, the Annals of Ophthalmology, and the American Journal of Ophthalmology.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is currently a member of the multiple organizations including the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Diabetes Association, the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, the Lee County Medical Society, the Collier County Medical Society, the Charlotte County Medical Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
